In the past few years we have had the great opportunity of watching series such as Breaking Bad, True Blood, Orange is the New Black, and a few more of similarity. Most of these series were not available on regular television stations; some on Netflix and more importantly some produced by Netflix. If you have had the opportunity of watching one or more of these series you probably realize that they really do not fall into one of the old “categories” of series. I like to think that the above mentioned series should fall into a new category described as Drama-Comedy. They were comedic in certain areas and dramatic in others; thus Drama-Comedy. I do hope that more series are developed and directed along the same lines.
Other series such as Dexter, Sons of Anarchy, and Making a Murderer were more dramatic, entertaining, and educational to some degree. These type of series are dramatic, make us think, and are entertaining but are definitely in the category of dramatic series. Again, these series are not available on regular television channels but are available on Netflix and some produced by Netflix.
It seems that either you need to pay for television channels that offer these types of series or have Netflix. Personally, I have Netflix and it has been a decision that I have not regretted.
I am sure that I am not the only one who would love to see more of these dramatic or dramatic-comedic series offered as they are very enjoyable. Let’s hope that the future of series includes such greatly directed scripts and actors portrayed as these have given us.
