As you can see my garden is growing.  Now I apologize some pictures are not right side up but it is so hot that I have run out of patience! lol lol  My lettuce was taken up on Sunday and new seeds planted; they are already up!  I have been eating cucumbers and grape tomatoes, cherry tomatoes, and regular tomatoes and as you can see there are plenty more to ripen yet!  I still have flowers coming out on my cucumbers which means more cucumbers!  I have had several great green bean meals and more are growing.  I eat strawberries every morning and there are still strawberries that need to ripen on the plants.

The humid hot weather has taken its toll on some of my flowers but they are surviving and getting their second wind with the petunias getting new flower buds.  My tropical plants are thriving and growing and look at the size of my citrus tree???  It has expanded in width to the point where I am wondering where in my home I am going to keep it this winter!

One of my pet peeves is being controlled by Corporate Monopolies!  Recently, I was irritated by the fact that my Comcast year is up soon and will be starting the second year of a “package” deal.  Before I moved to my present residence, which is only a couple of miles from my last residence, I enjoyed a package deal for several years with Verizon that covered my telephone, DSL, and cell phone.  Including long distance to Canada, my bill was approximately $130.00 per month and had not changed drastically in several years.  Oh how I miss Verizon!  When I moved to my current residence, I had no choice but to go with Comcast because Verizon was not in this area.  So, Comcast set me up with a “package” deal that included my land phone, cable, and their Internet high-speed; the cost $113.00 per month.  Now, my year is up and so are my costs!  Starting next month, I will have to pay $20.00 more per month (that’s $240.00 more per year) for the same services.  On top of that, after my second year is up the cost goes up another $20.00 per month (at that stage it puts my bill at $153.00 per month!  And that does not cover my cell phone!

I think it is time that we all complain about how these corporations think that they have you by the barrel!  For me, I have decided that I will be opting out of their “package” deal and just getting basic cable bringing my bill back to what I am currently paying.  Hey, I asked them if that was the best they could do for me and they kept pushing their “package”; well I just do not think it is worth having so many television channels that have duplicate shows on those channels for such a hefty cost out of my pocket that will go up yet again the year after.  That’s my way of combating these corporations that monopolize you by being the only “show in town”.  I am fed up and will not be held hostage!

As promised here are more pictures of what my deck garden looks like today (July 2nd, 2013)! As you can see I have trained my cucumbers to grow on the deck railing and the cucumbers are almost ready to eat.  You cannot see that my green bean plants do have beans and they are ready to eat; think I will be having fresh green beans for dinner tomorrow!  I have been eating strawberries and they are bigger than the first strawberries and very sweet!  I also have green peppers as you will see in one picture.  As you can see I have tomatoes on every tomato plant and my grape tomato plant has so many flowers on it too that I know I am going to have an abundance of grape tomatoes!  I cannot wait to eat some tomatoes!  I have been using the lettuce for quite some time now and pretty soon I will have to start a second harvest of lettuce.

On the front deck all my flowers are doing great!  I have sunflowers that are as tall as the railings now and I can see the start of flowers on them.  My moon flower is really creeping but no flowers yet!  All my flowering plants such as my pansies are beautiful and the pansies really create a beautiful hanging basket.

Well that’s all for today!  I would say that my deck garden has already been a huge success!  Think I will expand on it next year!
